Fundamental Techniques: Manipulative Tactics/Problems to Solve: · Which color · How hard to pull Equipment: Parachute, balls Description of Play: · Students must hold onto the edge · Students must listen to the teacher’s indications · Students make “waves” by pulling up and down Layer 1: · Students play with the parachute before doing anything else (making waves) · Working individually and then working as a unit Layer 2: · Use different games involving other objects or other roles (see modifications) Modifications: · Umbrella: slowly bring the parachute up and down at the same time · Mountain Climb: Same as Umbrella, but bring it all the way down on the ground and students “climb” it (feet stay off the parachute) · Igloo: Same as Umbrella but bring all the way down and students sit on the edge inside the parachute. Teacher calls out colors and the students sitting on that color must exchange seat · Pop Corn: Put balls on the parachute and students make waves · Exploding Pop Corn: Bring slowly up and fast down, all together · Swamp Monsters: Students sit down with parachute over their legs. One person is the “Swamp Monster.” That person crawls under the “waves” and grabs other student’s feet. When dragged under the parachute, the students become “Swamp Monsters” Safety: · Students are gentle with parachute so it doesn’t rip · Parachute stays away from neck and mouth |
